Tractors in Schools Initiative
Suffolk Agricultural Association offers schools the chance to have a tractor and farmer come and visit their pupils. Jonathan Drury of Thurlow Estate Farms joined us on 15th February to teach the children about the farm to fork journey.
A carefully planned visit ensured pupils in Y1 stayed safe whilst having the opportunity to get up close to a real tractor and even sit in the driving seat. They had lots to say about their experience and really enjoyed meeting Farmer Jonathan.
Inkpen class practised creating questions ready for the visit and took the time to send thank you letters afterwards to develop their writing for a purpose. Here is an example:
Dear Farmer Jonathan,
How are you? Thank you for bringing your tractor into our school. I really enjoyed it. I liked looking at the big wheels and learning about the 180 horse-power tractor. We saw some golden seed.

It was a wonderful afternoon and we are really grateful to Jonathan for the time and effort he took to make it such a successful visit.
