Cleves Place Care Home
There is a shared outreach project between St Felix and Cleves Place Care Home in Haverhill. Once a fortnight a small group of children drawn from the House Captains and Ministry Team visit the home after school to join with the resident’s activities. These have included playing bingo, cream teas, Valentine’s celebration, leading the music and flower arranging to name but a few.
It has been a very positive experience on both sides. The children articulate clearly what they have enjoyed and we have had fantastic feedback from Cleves Place Care Home. Our Interim Monitoring Visit highlighted how valuable this experience had been and the impact it has had on the children and their approach to older people.
Seven pupils from St Felix, supported by Mr Wolmarans and Mrs Walker, attended The Cycle Challenge at Cleves Place Care Home on Wednesday 22nd May 2019. This was part of Dementia Awareness Week. Our pupils contributed 26.3 miles to the total. They worked alongside other members of the Cleves Community.
In the same week we had a further delicious chance to contribute with our cake sales and bake off. There was a cupcake competition and as a school we collected enough cakes for every child to buy one and to sell to parents after school.
Given the impact of this project, we intend for it to be continued as clear evidence of our Catholic Social Teaching in action. In this way at St Felix we truly are Followers of Jesus Learning Together.
