Haverhill Science Festival

ONE Haverhill Partnership is delighted to host the very first Haverhill Science Festival. The primary aims of the festival are to promote the study of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics in schools; boost the educational aspirations of local students in Haverhill and promote training opportunities in high-tech industry.

Every school in Haverhill is taking part, and we are extremely excited that Helen Sharman CMG OBE, the first British astronaut, and renowned scientist Professor Lord Robert Winston are joining us to make it a very high-profile week for the town.

St Felix has been very happy to host two activities for our students. On Monday, Steam Co carried out a rocket making workshop with Y5 and Y6 which culminated in the launch of the rockets made that morning. The whole school watched in awe and the sleek designs took off above our heads to gasps and applause.

Today Kinetic Adventure joined us to carry out two workshops with pupils in Year 2-5. The first was Kitchen Science and pupils were delighted by the simple way in which products available at home can create wonderful things.

"It was great because it shows you how you can use food to do experiments at home and learn skills!"

The second workshop was forensic focused and pupils learnt how to assess a crime scene and how to take their own fingerprints.

"The crime scene and fingerprints were fun because you can see other people's fingerprints, and you can figure out different theories about the scene."

A huge thank you to One Haverhill Partnership for providing this wonderful opportunity for St Felix pupils to consider different ways of thinking and wider career paths in the future.
