Governors

A message from the Chair of Governors

Hello, my name is Judith Dance and I am the Chair of the Local Governing Body of St Felix RC Primary School. The school is part of Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Multi Academy Trust.

I am delighted to welcome you to our website which I hope provides the necessary information to parents and visitors about how our school is run and the aims and expectations we set ourselves.

As a part of the Trust, our Local Governing Body is made up of Foundation Governors (who are appointed by the Diocese), Staff Governors, and Parent Governors.  We are entrusted with ensuring the school is well run and promotes the best outcomes for each child.

The Governing Body’s key duties include: setting and reviewing the curriculum, responsibility for standards, approving the school budget and reviewing progress against it and setting and implementing the admissions policy.  The Governors also act as a critical friend to the school by supporting and challenging Mrs Sandvig / Mrs Dodds and their staff to ensure that the teaching and learning standards are high and that all pupils make good progress in a safe, engaging and rich learning environment.

In addition the Foundation Governors on the Governing Body have a legal duty to preserve and develop the Catholic character of the school and to ensure that the school is conducted in accordance with the vision and values of the Multi Academy Trust.

I hope our website answers many if not all of your questions, but the school is always happy and willing to answer any concerns or queries you may have.

The Governing Body is made up of 6 foundation governors, 2 parent governors, 1 staff governor, and the headteacher. The information below gives a brief description of the background and skills of our current Governing Body.

My career in teaching began in 2009. I have worked exclusively in the Catholic education system, successfully fulfilling roles as Class Teacher, Subject Leader, Senior Leader, Deputy Headteacher and currently as Head of School.

Prior to teaching I worked clinically as a midwife but chose to train as a teacher once I had my own children and have found this much more fulfilling, particularly in a Catholic setting. I have worked in the Diocese of East Anglia and Diocese of Westminster.

I have had subject responsibility for a variety of subjects but my real passion is Religious Education which I have led successfully in both of my previous settings.

I became Head of School at St Felix in September 2018

My career in teaching began in 2009. I have worked exclusively in the Catholic education system, successfully fulfilling roles as Class Teacher, Subject Leader, Senior Leader, Acting Headteacher and currently as Head of School.

From my childhood I aspired to join the teaching profession. I attended Newcastle University and completed a BA Hons Degree in Linguistics. Following this I moved back to East Anglia to study at the University of Cambridge where I completed a PGCE. In 2010, I completed A Masters in Education alongside teaching.

I joined St. Felix in 2014 as Key Stage 2 Leader and Maths Leader from 2014-2016, where I gained great understanding of effective leadership.

During my more recent time at St. Felix, I have worked as the Deputy Headteacher and Acting Headteacher and am now the Head of School. In addition, I have the responsibilities of Safeguarding Lead, Assessment Lead and English Lead. My teaching experience ranges from Year 1-6.

I live and work in Haverhill where I manage Haverhill Arts Centre and organise a wide ranging programme of events and activities. My job gives me plenty of relevant experience in the areas of finance, premises management and health & safety. In addition I am a trustee/director of a Museum in Cambridge.

My time in senior leadership over a period of 18 years, and three different counties has given me a wealth of experience working with a number of Governing Bodies and Governor Committees.
